Leading Pallet and Crate manufacturer Wood-Systems, based in Ballinrobe, has achieved Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification – the first pallet company in Ireland to do so. FSC certification ensures that responsible forest management is supported not only in Ireland but worldwide.

FSC certified forest products such as sawn timber used in pallets are verified from the forest of origin through the supply chain. The FSC label ensures that the forest products used are from responsibly harvested and verified sources.

Wood-systems are Ireland’s leading pallet manufacturer.  The company is situated on a 4-acre facility in Ballinrobe, and is currently producing between 15,000-18,000 pallets per week.

Its core products are the supply of high quality kiln dried and heat treated pallets & crates into the multinational sector in Ireland and the UK.  It is one of 5 Irish companies to hold a Euro Pallet license.
Five years ago the company invested in a state of the art production line capable of producing 2,000 pallets in an 8 hour shift and in that time it has more than doubled it’s output.

Managing Director John Moran explains: “We made a decision to invest in production equipment 5 years ago which has paid off.  We can guarantee large volume and high quality consistently to our customers.  This has given us an edge against our competitors and it has shown in our growth figures over the past number of years.

"Hopefully, achieving FSC certification will help grow sales further as it enables prospective customers to make purchasing decisions that benefit people and the environment as well as providing ongoing business value,” adds Mr Moran.

The company has increased its staff numbers over the past two years and is investing in another state of the art kiln this summer.

This will allow it to meet increased demand for kiln dried and heat treated pallets in the short term.

Because the company takes its environmental responsibilities seriously, it uses wood chip produced on site from timber waste to heat it’s kilns.

This also keeps drying costs to a minimum for its customers.
John Moran continues: “We have a fantastic team here are Wood-systems and they have all worked very hard, particularly in the past 2 years.  It’s true that a company’s biggest asset are it’s people and Wood-systems is no exception.

"I’d like to pay tribute to them because they have made such a contribution to our success,” adds Mr Moran.
