Michael Crothers, a native of Canada, took over as managing Director of Shell E&P Ireland Limited and Corrib project venture manager on December 1. He replaces Terry Nolan who had held the positions for the past four years.A chemical engineer by profession, Michael has worked in the oil and gas industry for 28 years, 24 of these with Shell.

His most recent role was as General Manager of Expansion Operations for Shell’s upstream business in the Americas, based in Canada.

Previously he worked in a variety of technical and leadership positions in other parts of the world and served for a time as Vice President of Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainable Development for Shell’s downstream business, based in London.

He has also worked as General Manager of Global Supply and Logistics for Shell Chemicals, a role that saw him manage operations in 40 countries, including Singapore, Japan, China, Thailand, the UK, Ireland, most of continental Europe, parts of Africa and North and South America. 

Born to Irish parents, who emigrated to Calgary from County Down in 1960, Michael has been to Ireland many times and has family connections in both Down and Dublin.

He is married to Cheryl and the couple have three grown-up children, twins Siobhán and Meghan and son Evan.

Michael see his new role as a “challenging assignment” which will provide him with the opportunity to work in the gas business and to learn more about offshore operations.

“It is rare to have an opportunity to help deliver something that is important not only to Shell but to a whole country,” he said.
