The information sessions will be taking place around South Mayo during February and dates are confirmed as follows: 13th [Castlebar, the Harlequin Hotel], 15th [Westport, Hotel Westport], 20th [Claremorris, McWilliam Park Hotel] and 22nd [Ballinrobe, The Valkenburg], from 8.00 – 9.30 p.m.

South West Mayo Development Company, which may also be known to some as ‘Leader’, was established in 1992 and supports individuals in the South and West Mayo region through the  delivery of programmes focused on promoting economic and social development.  In 2011, the organisation supported 244 businesses, investing €1.2 million overall.

Commenting on the upcoming events, Lorraine Toner of SWMDC said: “Our focus is on supporting and promoting enterprise development in the region –we’re always interested in hearing from individuals with viable concepts or business plans – there are several measures under which they may be eligible for support or grant aid. These information sessions will provide detail and information on all our supports.”

Open for business

Individual project officers will be available at the events to deal with queries and answer any questions applicants may have, “We’re open for business! This “economic climate” provides great opportunity and we’re here to help people explore their options.  I’d really urge anyone considering starting or developing a business idea to make sure they attend”.

In addition to funding supports, SWMDC also provides access to training and mentoring for start-ups and small businesses and recently held weekend business clinics with specialist mentors in accounting, marketing, PR, exporting and strategy.  Successful project promoters with SWMDC may be entitled to advice and mentoring during the course of their project as part of the supports offered by the organisation.
