Scoil Naomh Brid, Cullens, Ballina, had lots to celebrate this week and was lauded for giving a lesson in how to conserve water - a topic that is going to become more relevant to all our lives in the years ahead. The school celebrated being awarded a third green flag, the award of Excellence in Science and Maths and the prestigious Digital Schools Award for having achieved excellence in the integration of Information and Communications Technology into teaching and learning. .

European Commissioner Máire Geoghegan-Quinn honoured students from Mayo at the Irish CREST Awards in The Helix, in Dublin, when she presented four Gold CREST Awards to students from Mayo  - the highest  possible accolade in these prestigious awards in recognition of their achievements in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Ceol ‘s Comhrá is a group aimed at secondary school students in Castlebar offering them an opportunity to use whatever Irish they may have while trying out different activities. This year Ceol ‘s Comhrá will be behind the camera, getting involved in every stage of film making, from script writing to costume making to composing a sound track. The group will meet up every Monday from 6.00-7.30 in the NYP in Castlebar.

The app would be a digital portal for the town, offering visitors a colourful guide to historical sites; where to eat - and a what's on listings among other exciting services.

Iorras FM has won a CRAOL Achievement Award at the 2011 awards ceremony for the Community Radio sector, held in Athlone. The Belmullet-based community radio station received a Distinction in the Commissioned Programme Category for the 10-part series “Stand and Deliver – The Irish Outlaw in Story and Song”.

Castlebar students' app wins Trailblazers award at BT Young Scientist Featured

St Gerald's Secondary School, Castlebar, students have won a top award and come second in their category at this year's BT Young Scientist and Technology Awards. The students won the awards for iCollapse - a mobile phone application for assisting those who are liable to collapse. The project won the Google Trailblazers Best Group special award - and  came second in its category for senior technology entrants. Three other Mayo secondary schools were Highly Commended at the awards in the RDS, Dublin, on Friday night.
