Erris FM Community Radio wins award for series on Irish outlaws Featured

Iorras FM has won a CRAOL Achievement Award at the 2011 awards ceremony for the Community Radio sector, held in Athlone. The Belmullet-based community radio station received a Distinction in the Commissioned Programme Category for the 10-part series “Stand and Deliver – The Irish Outlaw in Story and Song”.

Following this success, the next series of programmes from the same team. 'Irish Heroes, Poets and Villians' will begin broadcasting on Claremorris Community Radio 94.6FM on Wednesday, 25 January, at 4.00pm. 

The award-wnning Stand Deliver series was written and narrated by well-known Killala historian, Stephen Dunford, edited by Erris FM's Tony Conway from Doohoma.

Co-produced by Stephen and Tony, the programme was commissioned through the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland's 'Sound and Vision’ scheme.

The Musical Director was traditional musician, Padraig MacNally from Ballina.  Broadcast both on Claremorris Community Radio and Iorras FM, the series featured many well known Mayo musicians and actors such as actor

Stephen Doyle from Ballina, musician Colm Henry from Iorras FM, as well as contributions from Sharon Shannon and Steve Wickham of the Waterboys.

Stand and Deliver was described by the adjudicating panel as an “excellent programme, well narrated with excellent sound effects, which left the panel wanting to hear more”.
 
This is the second year Iorras FM has won such a prestigious award, following the success the 'Wildtracks' series in 2010.
