Belmullet Sea Angling Club held their annual Team Shore Angling Competition on Sunday, 16th October. Five teams weathered the extremely poor conditions, with strong south westerly winds and heavy rain showers at regular intervals. Despite the poor conditions many participants enjoyed excellent sport throughout the day, with the winning team of Michael Dunleavy and Tony Lally, landing a total of seven varieties.

Pike Angling

Angling guide Kenny Sloan reported on a recent pike fishing expedition with visiting anglers from Germany, Joachim Kasper and Marlow Kaiser, in the Foxford area. Weather conditions were far from ideal for the visitors, and with a strong wind blowing, boat fishing was not possible for much of the day.

However, young Marlow Kaiser was delighted when he managed to catch his first ever pike, followed by his second, measuring 86cms and 74cms in length. Sink and draw and float fished roach accounted for Marlow’s two pike.
