The Knockranny restaurant beat off stiff competition in Ireland’s premium restaurant sector to win the coveted award at the 23rd Annual Hotel and Catering Review Gold Medal Awards.
Gaining a solid reputation for top-quality Irish fare which promotes the best of its locality, La Fougère has been described as a "must-visit" by members of the Hotel and Catering Review Gold Medal Awards Jury.
"Food lovers have beaten a path to Knockranny House Hotel ever since head chef Seamus Commons has taken residence at La Fougère, and it is little wonder. Seamus and his kitchen brigade produce truly memorable Irish dishes, showcasing the best of local and seasonal ingredients and the quality on the plate is matched by sleek service front of house," commented Sarah Grennan, editor of Hotel and Catering Review and chair of the Gold Medal Awards Jury.

“It has been a great twelve months,” said Adrian Noonan, owner of Knockranny House Hotel, “La Fougère being awarded the Hotel and Catering Review Gold Medal Award for Fine Dining is wonderful recognition for Head Chef Seamus Commons, our Restaurant Manager Deirdre Cullen and for their hard working and committed teams, it is their award”.
Knockranny House Hotel is no stranger to the Gold Medal Awards’ winners’ enclosure, collecting the prestigious Four Star Hotels Award at last year’s ceremony. Since then the hotel has also added the Food and Wine awards for Best Chef in Connaught 2011 with Seamus Commons and Best Restaurant in Connaught 2011 for La Fougère to its ever-growing list of accolades.
The popular Bridgestone Guides also included the hotel in the ‘Bridgestone 100 Best Places to Stay in Ireland 2011’ and in the ‘Bridgestone 100 Best Restaurants in Ireland 2011’ and it was also awarded 2 AA Rosettes for Culinary Excellence 2011 and was one of only two hotels in Ireland to win a Wine Spectator Award this year.
