For the first time ever Mayo cycling will get a big boost with two teams competing in the An Post Ras. The Mayo Centra team to compete in the An Post Ras was announced after months of hard preparation and racing. The squad of seven, comprised Western lakes and Covey wheelers Westport club members, have gone through a full transformation from normal club racers who competed locally to full fledge elite racers.
Mayo Pink Ribbon says a big thank you to cyclists
The green and red of Mayo took a back seat at the weekend as the people of the county came out in force behind the Mayo Pink Ribbon Cycle. Shops, businesses, houses and gardens were bedecked in pink as people showed their solidarity with those experiencing breast cancer and those men and women fundraising to create a safer future through research into the disease.
Swinford cyclist wears yellow jersey in Mayo League
After 4 rounds of the Mayo Cycling League, Swinford man, Kevin Roache, has now scored more points in the 4 races to date than the other 87 starters and wears the Marrey Bikes sponsored yellow jersey of league leader. At round 4, all the strong men of Mayo cycling used their combined strength to reel in the 9minute handicap and set up a bunch finish on the Ballyvary road outside of Castlebar.
Centra sponsor Mayo cycling team in Ras Transformation
Centra, one of Ireland's leading food store outlets, are linking up with an unusual venture of Ras transformation. The project is aimed at bringing ordinary working club racers who have families and are all on the wrong side of 30 to be able to complete the 8 days of the 60th edition of the An Post Ras International cycle race. The team was launched at Keegan and Higgins Centra store Enniscrone, where the cycling project was unveiled to the public.
Mayo cycling League switches into top gear for new season
The 2012 Mayo cycling league kicks off next Friday, 23rd of March, with a 5k hill climb up Lally's mountain in Tourmakeady. The domestic cycling scene in Mayo has blossomed over the past few years with cycling clubs popping up everywhere, and in recessionary times there is no better cost effective and mode of transport than cycling.
South Mayo cycling club aiming to be biggest in Connacht
Members of Western Lakes Cycling Club gathered in Inch’s Bar Ballinrobe on Wednesday 7th March to launch the all new club website along with its calendar of events for the coming year. The night also added as a meet and greet for new members with a chance for more to sign up.The main focus of the night was to launch the new look club website designed by Design west Kiltimagh.
Western Lakes Cycling Club, invites the public to the launch of their new website, the Mizen to Malin cycle challenge, Polkadot and Lap of the Mask cycles, Western Lakes / Covey League club road racing league. The event takes place Wednesday, 7th March, at 8pm in Inches Bar, Main St, Ballinrobe.

Western Lakes Cycling Club is holding Spin classes every Thursday, first class 7pm second 8pm, classes will continue till Easter.
Westport to get €5 million boost to pioneer Smarter Travel in Ireland
Westport has officially become one of Ireland’s Smarter Travel Demonstration Areas 2012-2016, and will receive €5million Government investment to develop its sustainable travel plan, according to Minister Michael Ring TD. Limerick City and Dungarvan are the other two locations.
