The official launch of the brand new Clew Bay Garden Trail by Mr Michael Ring TD will take place in Connacht Gold Garden Centre, Lodge Road Westport on Friday 25th May at 11am.

At a meeting held on Thursday, 15th March, attending members of Mayo Organic Group voted unanimously to oppose the proposed GM potato trials by Teagasc. 

The Mayo Organic Group will be meeting on Thursday, 15th March, at 8pm, in Bishop O’Healy Centre, Mayo Abbey.

A Seed Swap is being held on Sunday, March 11th, between 2.30pm and 4pm, at Curam, Claremorris, and will be of interest to gardeners, vegetable growers, and groups.

The next meeting of Mayo Organic Group will be held on the at 8pm, 16th February, in Bishop O’Healy Centre Mayo Abbey.  The presentation will be – teaming with life – rules, tools, and strategies for a healthy soil and healthy plants. 

Anyone interested in developing their own organic garden will be delighted to hear that a hands-on course will be starting in January that will teach you how to to design, work on, and maintain your very own food paradise and fertility hub. The hands-on and theoretical course will be run in 6-modules, and, according to the organisers, who are committed organic growers in Mayo, it will be affordable. 

GIY (Grow it Yourself) Foxford is helping people to grow more of their own food and giving them the practical skills to do so.

National Organic Week 2011 will take place from 12-18 September and a number of events will be taking place in Mayo as organic producers and retailers celebrate the annual event. Events taking place during National Organic Week will range from organic food tastings and cookery demonstrations to farm walks and educational talk.

Teaching your children the joys of gardening from an early age is something more and more parents are doing as we all realise the importance of healthy eating - and for society in general the importance of self-suffiency and sustainability. One parent and his children from Ballina Family Resource Centre Parent and Toddler Group has rented an allotment in the Ballina area to grow their own.
