Tidy Towns is helping to transform Ballinrobe into a green town
Ballinrobe Tidy Towns focussed on the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle message during the month of March, encouraging residents of the lovely South Mayo town to minimise the amount of waste they produce. The message was promoted with a talk from Sharon Cameron, Environmental Awareness Officer Mayo County Council, and later the Tidy Towns had a float in the Ballinrobe St. Patrick’s Day parade, bringing their message to a wider audience.
Free recycling of household electrical goods in Mayo during March
WEEE Ireland, in association with Mayo County Council Environment Department, are running a month-long recycling campaing in Mayo during March when householders will be able to dispose of unwanted electrical goods such fridges and washing machines. Twenty “Wagon Days” will take place at venues throughout Mayo and a further 11 events will take place in the larger towns later in the year.

Recycle your Christmas trees in Mayo and get 2012 off to a green start
Now that Christmas is over the question of where do you get rid of unwanted Christmas trees and cards arises. Thankfully, Mayo County Council is again this year providing a convenient recycling service which continues until January 14th for tress - and until the end of January for cards. Christmas cards and Christmas trees can be recycled at a number of locations throughout the county.
Funding for Mayo recycling facilities
Fine Gael TD for Mayo, John O'Mahony, has welcomed the decision by the Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan, to provide €5 million to support recycling facilities in local authorities. The money will be used for the operation of bring banks and civic amenity facilities.
Recycling your batteries at Mayo venues will help children's charity
Spread a little sunshine and recycle your batteries for charity in Mayo. All portable batteries recycled before December 31st will raise funds for The Children's Sunshine Home and LauraLynn House. Recycle your batteries at any battery retailer or come along to the special events being held throughout Mayo by WEEE Ireland and supported by Mayo County Council. Battery Recycling events run from Monday, 5th to Saturday 10th, in a town near you.

Ballina reuse event finds new home for Knitmaster knitting machine
Mayo County Council embraced the European Week of Waste Reduction by hosting a FreeTrade Ireland reuse event at Ballina Recycling Centre on Friday last and found 'new homes' for a number of unwanted domestic appliances that would otherwise have been dumped.
