Mayo students are top of class for road safety ^Featured

There was a huge entry for the annual Mayo Mayo Road Safety Art Competition with primary schools throughout the county taking part. A notable feature of the 2011 competition, which ran throughout the year, was the high standard of entries and the involvement of teachers and parents in helping the students connect and understand the importance of road safety.

The competition is organised by the Road Safety Department of Mayo County Council under the stewardship of Noel Gibbons.

All the winners were invited to Aras an Chondae, Castlebar, where they were each presented with a calendar and High Viz safety vest by Mr Gibbons, Mayo Road Safety Officer, and Garda Sergeant Donie Duignan, Divisional Traffic Corps, Castlebar.

The winning painting illustrates the council calendar - copies went to the winning schools. The 12 successful paintings are used to promote road safety throughout the year.
