The Erris community are leading the way in the fight against heart disease and stroke by working with local heart charity Croí, in partnership with HSE West Mayo PCCC (Primary, Community and Continuing Care) by hosting a public meeting to promote heart health and raise awareness of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease during May, as part of the ‘Mayo Healthy Living Month’ initiative.

There was a big turnout for the ‘Quick and Easy Meals’ cookery event in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar, on Wednesday night when Máire Dufficy, Bord Bia Food Adviser, had the audience literally eating out of her hands when she showed just how quick and easily a selection of delicious healthy dishes can be prepared.

A new Director of Nursing has been appointed to Belmullet District Hospital. The announcement has been welcomed by Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring TD.

Patricia Barrett-O’Boyle, a Public Health Nurse in Castlebar, received the prestigious Gobnait O’Connell Award at the Annual Delegate Conference of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation. Patricia was nominated for this award, which commemorates the late Gobnait O’Connell, by her nursing colleagues in the Castlebar Branch.

An over 35 mens only physical activity initiative is having a big impact on males in the Ballina, Claremorris and Westport areas. Over 100 men are meeting on a twice weekly basis in preparation for a 5K Run / Walk which is due to take place on Wednesday, 16th May, in Castlebar.
