Fairground Attraction Ballina concert
Fairground Attraction make their first visit to North Mayo when they appear at Ballina Arts Centre on February 28th at 8pm. The group helped bring singer, Eddi Reader into the limelight and to the attention of a much wider audience in the 1980s.
Ballina psychiatric unit to close
The HSE has confirmed plans to close the psychiatric unit at St Joseph’s District Hospital in Ballina this year, according to local Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary. Deputy Calleary has described it as a ‘dark day’ for mental health services in north Mayo.
Mayo schools get Irish American Partnership funding
Taoiseach Enda Kenny, TD, has welcomed funding from the Irish American Partnership for five Mayo primary schools totalling $7,500. The five schools are all in the parish of Islandeady; namely, Cornanool, Cloggernagh, Cogaula, Glenisland, and Leitir.
Scoil Raifteiri NS win Castlebar Credit Union quiz
Castlebar Credit Union school’s Quiz was held in Davitt College and the Under 13 category winners were Scoil Raifteiri NS. Joint runners-up were Clogher NS and Breaffy NS.
Admiral Brown commemoration in Foxford
The 155th anniversary commemoration of the death of Admiral William Brown will take place in Foxford on Saturday the 3rd March next. The ceremonies will commence with a military march featuring the Irish Naval Service and the Irish Army, (Renmore Barracks) which will depart from the Mayfly Hotel, Main Street, at 11.40 a.m. and will arrive at Saint Michael’s Church at 11.45 a.m.
