The young Ballina Dolphin swimmer was not put off by the few hundred other competitors taking part. His first swim was the 200 Freestyle and he took an incredible six seconds of his time and was placed seventh overall.
In doing so he booked his place for the this year’s Division 1 National Championships with an incredible six seconds to spare. He did not finish there; next up was the 50 Back where he qualified for the final in third place after taking another two seconds of his time.
In the final he left nothing to chance and powered his way home for a silver medal and again took second of his time. Adam certainly proved that he is someone to watch out for in the future.
There was another good performance from Jennifer Ward who took part in the 800 Freestyle, 400 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 50 Freestyle, 100 Back and 50 Back.
Jennifer had some very fine swims and took the Bronze in the 400 Freestyle, Bronze in the 50 Back and again in the 100 Freestyle to add to the Ballina Dolphins medal tally for the weekend.
Shane Dunne swam the 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 50 Back, 400 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle. Shane had some great swims. He had a personal best in the 200 Freestyle. He qualified for the final of the 100 Breaststroke with a PB and was placed 8th overall. Again in the 50 back he had a fine swim with his second PB and was placed 4th in the final.
Shane finished the weekend for the Ballina Dolphins in style when he took part in the 100 Freestyle and finished in a time 1.09.30 taking 2 ½ seconds of his time just missing out on his Division 1 time by 0.50 second.
Well done to all the swimmers and coach for a great week end and a great start to the Long Course Season
