Cáirde Crann Mór Ballinrobe shortlisted for ESB Community Fund prize

Cáirde Crann Mór, Ballinrobe, has been shortlisted for the EBS National Community Fund prize of €10,000.  The organisation has already received a county award of €500 together with Ballina and Castlebar Rugby Clubs.  Cáirde Crann Mór was founded in 1998 with the intention of raising funds to support Western Care’s services the south Mayo area.

The Cáirde group includes parents, relatives, service users, staff and friends of Western Care.  The Association’s services and supports in the south Mayo area are largely based in Ballinrobe at the Crann Mór Training Centre on the Neale Road and in a number of residential and respite services throughout the town. 

Cáirde Crann Mór holds many fundraising events in the course of any one year and receives enormous support from the surrounding community.  Cáirde also places a great emphasis on raising the profile of the organisation locally thus making people more aware of the fantastic services and supports that are available to people with special needs in the area. 

Speaking at the handing over of the local award Barney Kiernan, Manager of the EBS Linenhall St. office, Castlebar said the EBS were delighted to be associated with Cáirde Crann Mór and Western Care’s services the south Mayo area and complemented the local community on their unstinting support of people with special needs in their area.

He expressed his delight that Cáirde Crann Mór had been shortlisted to represent Mayo in the EBS National Community Fund prize and wished it well for the future.

Anthony McCormack, Chairman, Cáirde Crann Mór, thanked Mr Kiernan and EBS for their support.  He stated that is was so encouraging for Cáirde to receive support from EBS and to be nominated for such a prestigious national award.

He urges all friends of Western Care and Mayo people at home and throughout the country to support Cáirde’s attempt to win the overall prize which would prove to be of enormous support to the Association in these stringent times.
