Cloonfad man, Seamus Staunton is a beacon of light for Cancer Care West. Every Christmas he puts on a spectacular Christmas lights display at his home that is a big attraction for both young and old to raise funds for cancer care. Seamus presented the proceeds of his charitable undertaking  to David O'Donnell of Cancer Care  West.

Ballyhaunis and District Credit Union won the Christmas Window Display Competition which took place in the town in the run-up to Christmas. 

Mary Rochford from Gurteen, Ballyhaunis, won €63,500, including a holiday to Kenya, on last Saturday’s (17th December 2011) National Lottery Winning Streak TV game show held in RTE.

A novel soccer tournament to promote Ballyhaunis Multi Use Games area took place last Friday, 4th November.

Ballyhaunis Chamber held its annual general meeting on Thursday, 3rd November, at 7pm, in The Enterprise Centre, Ballyhaunis. 

A novel idea to promote Ballyhaunis multi-use games area is taking place next Friday, November 4th, at 12pm. Children from the local primary school, representing their favorite European clubs such as Man United, Germany, Real Madrid and Barcelona will take part in an exciting soccer tournament.  

Reigning Mayo hurling champions, Ballyhaunis, face Roscommon champions, Athleague, in the Connacht Intermediate Hurling semi-final on Monday, October 31st, at 2.30pm in Athleague.

Ballyhaunis Railway Station is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its opening on October 1, at 3pm, when local staff will be joined by dignataries from Irish Rail, Ballyhaunis Chamber of Commerce,  public representatives, and the community, to mark this historic occasion. The ceremony will take place exactly 150 years to the day of the train station's opening on October 1st, 1861.
