Jim Higgins FG MEP for Ireland North West was today re-elected to the prestigious position of Quaestor of the European Parliament.

Mayo County Council will receive €280,000 in EU funding over the lifetime of the Rural Alliances project, which aims to strengthen self-supporting, confident communities, Mayo MEP Jim Higgins confirmed. The local authority adds to its portfolio of Interreg projects with recent approval under the latest batch of the IVB North West Europe Programme Fund.

A European Commission proposal to make eCall road accident reporting devices mandatory on all new cars and light commercial vehicles sold in the EU from 2015 was welcomed by Jim Higgins MEP at a meeting with Digital Agenda Commissioner Neelie Kroes on Thursday. The devices currently cost under €100 to install.
