Man dies after being struck by train at Foxford

A man died after being struck by a train on the railway line outside Foxford on Tuesday evening.

Mayo Fine Gael TD, John O’Mahony, has vowed to continue to campaign for the completion of the Western Rail Corridor.

Ballyhaunis Railway Station is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its opening on October 1, at 3pm, when local staff will be joined by dignataries from Irish Rail, Ballyhaunis Chamber of Commerce,  public representatives, and the community, to mark this historic occasion. The ceremony will take place exactly 150 years to the day of the train station's opening on October 1st, 1861.

Iarnród Éireann is promising Dublin-Westport/Ballina train journey time improvements of 22 minutes from typical current journey times of 3 hours 25-30 mins.

Greenway for Western Rail Corridor ruled out

The Western Regional Authority has a passed a motion ruling out the notion of a  greenway on any part of the Western Rail Corridor. The motion was proposed by Sinn Fein and received unanimous cross-party support, with Fine Gael, Fianna Fail, Labour and Independents all supporting the motion.
