Active Retirement Ireland is the national representative body for 534 Active Retirement Associations, with a total membership of over 22,500 people.
Representatives of Active Retirement Associations from counties Mayo, Galway and Roscommon will attend the meeting.
There are 25 Active Retirement Associations in Mayo, including: Ballina ARA; Ballinrobe ARA; Castlebar ARA; Claremorris ARA; Foxford ARA; and Westport ARA.
Tuesday’s meeting will be addressed by Maureen Kavanagh, Chief Executive of Active Retirement Ireland, as well as Tom O’Mahony, President of the organisation.
Cutbacks
Speaking in advance, Maureen Kavanagh, said: “This AGM gives us an opportunity to consult with our members in the West, and to hear about the concerns of older people in Mayo and surrounding areas.
"Cutbacks to primary healthcare services, transport schemes and benefits packages are having a serious impact on older people’s quality of life, and many are concerned about how they will cope if there are further cutbacks in the future.
“At the meeting, we will ask all those in attendance to share their views on the issues causing most concern. At national level, Active Retirement Ireland will then work to highlight these issues with the relevant politicians and policymakers.”
