Irish TV puts spotlight on Foxford

 Ramblers, hikers and walkers from the first ever Foxford Walking Festival will feature this Thursday, October 27th, on ‘Out & About in Ireland’ the IRISH TV produced weekly programme broadcast on SKY TV channel 201 at 9pm. Viewers will experience the wild and wonderful terrain around this quaint rural town in North Mayo as the walkers ramble down country roads, trek the Ox Mountain Trail and stroll the magnificent Callow Loop Walk.

“Our programme this week is all about outdoor Ireland and all it has to offer.  We get a real insight into rural Ireland and experience the magic of the landscape that is on our doorstep,” commented IRISH TV producer Mairéad Ní Mhaoilchiaráin.
 
The Foxford Walking Festival attracted visitors and walkers from all over the country with trails and tracks for all fitness levels and enthusiasts.  Visitors were guided all weekend on the walks by experienced local guides with regular stops to explain the local history, heritage and wildlife.   
 
“This is a family friendly walking festival with something for everyone.  Foxford has so much to offer the outdoor explorer and we hope that lots of these visitors will return to the area again,” commented Jim Murray, event organiser.
 
The TV show on Sky YVchannel 201 this Thursday and on www.irishtv.ie also features talented local musician, Stephen Doherty, who plays a tune inspired by this picturesque locality.  Mayo County Manager and Foxford native Peter Hynes explains in the programme the importance of such outdoor pursuits and activities and how the local area benefits from the Walking Festival.
 
The programme also features the Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail with Sr. Maureen Lally from the Tochar Valley Rural Community Network outlining the importance of these events and how they can sustain rural populations into the future.

Apart from the tracks and trails, the programme also features the Baboró children’s international arts festival from Galway and the family orientated Nitro Festival from Letterkenny in Co. Donegal.
