Shania McDonagh of Balla No Name Club was the winner of the Road Safety campaign poster competition. She received her award from Balla No Name Club, Road Safety Authority officer, Eilish Mulherne, at a recent function.

In the past five years, Culture Night has become a national and phenomenon and here in Mayo it has also become one of the arts highlights of the year.  The evening provides an opportunity for audiences, cultural organisations and groups alike to showcase and experience local culture while also being part of a national event.  Feedback from the evening has been incredibly positive.

Mayo County Council's Summer Music Series will feature seven musical performances in venues all around the county.  Achill, Westport, Ballyhaunis, Castlebar, Louisburgh, Belmullet and Charlestown are all stops on the Summer Music Series in 2011. Many tastes are catered for in an exciting, eclectic programme featuring some of the finest homegrown and international musical talent.

Tanaiste opens Mayo primary school extensions

Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills, Mary Coughlan TD, has opened extensions and refurbishments at Balla and Taugheen primary schools.

The Minister opened a new extension in Balla National School. The school has an enrolment of 159 pupils.

Tree-planting takes root in Balla

Pupils from Balla National School give a helping to Cllr John Cribbin, Cathaoirleach Mayo Co Co, as he plants a semi-mature Mountain Ashtree in the grounds of the school. Included in photo are Patricia Flatley,School Principal; Sharon Cameron, Environment Awareness Officer, with Mayo County Council, Aisling Wheeler, An Taisce; and Peter Gill, Parks Superintendent MCC.
School children from Balla took part in National Tree Week by planting a beautiful Mountain Ash in their school grounds.
