The store underwent a complete makeover, upgrading its look and feel to the new XL branding, both inside and out. This marks an important milestone in the store’s 10 year history as an XL but also as the site of a local garage and petrol pumps, which Peter and Kevin’s parents, Peter McDonnell Snr and his wife Patsy, originally opened 40 years ago.
Speaking at the launch, Peter McDonnell said: “We decided to make an investment in the upgrade of our store to create a more enjoyable shopping experience for our customers. It was also timely for us because we are celebrating 40 years in business in Kilalla – the last 10 of those as part of the XL group - and we wanted to mark the occasion in a memorable way.

Included are members of the McDonnell family, Peter and his wife Finola, his brother Kevin and his wife Mary, daughter Ciara, XL's Development Managers Thomas McAree, Barry Egerton and Marketing Manager Margaret McLoughlin, Fr Paddy Hoban PP. friends and staff.

On the re-launch day, there was plenty of entertainment for the kids with a balloon modeller, face painting, bouncy castle and special appearance by Barney the Dinosaur. The MidWest Radio Satellite Cruiser did a live broadcast from the store and there were prize giveaways throughout the week, along with lots of great product offers.
McDonnell’s XL Killala has re-launched its new look store, coinciding with the businesses’ 10 year anniversary as part of the XL group. Owners and brothers, Peter and Kevin McDonnell, marked the occasion with a store celebration for local customers and entertainment for all the family.
Located at Killala Motors, George’s Street, Killala, McDonnell’s XL provides employment for 10 staff locally and is a big supporter of the local community.
The Store is open Monday – Friday 7am-11pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am -11pm.
