The inaugural Exposure Castlebar Sprint Distance Triathlon takes place on Sunday, April 22nd, bringing some of the country's leading ironmen to the Castebar for what promises to be an exciting spectacle. The race is being jointly hosted by Exposure Outdoor Shop, G.M.I.T Castlebar Students Union and Liquid Motion Triathlon Club.

€50,000 approved for Coláiste Uisce

A grant of €50,000 has been approved for Coláiste Uisce, in Elly Bay, Clogher, near Belmullet, to allow them develop their activities in support of the Irish language in the college’s catchment area.

Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) Castlebar is to host the Irish Kayaking Intervarsities from 17 to 19 February, bringing an estimated 500 people to the town of Castlebar and neighbouring villages.The annual event offers kayakers from colleges all over Ireland the opportunity to get together and compete for prestigious titles in a number of divisions such as whitewater, freestyle, canoe polo and long distance.

Climbers to get Guinness Book of Records certs

The 11 climbers who completed 12 climbs of Croagh Patrick inside 24-hours back in July will be presented with Guinness Book of  World Records Certificate on December 30th, at 7pm, in Campbell's bar, Murrisk. Fifteen brave climbers broke the record of 17,011 metres with a new record of 18,134 metres by climbing the Reek twelve times each in 24-hours.

Marrey wins National Adventure Race League

The penultimate round was crucial for Mayo athlete, Padraig Marrey, overall league win, held on the beautiful grounds of Powerscourt in Wicklow the third race promoted by the  WAR organisers. This race was one of the longest in the series covering 72kms with four bike sections using the Sally Gap and Djouce mountains and two mountain runs up the Sugar Loaf and Maulina Mtn and a kayak section.

€2,000 prize fund for Great Western Greenway 10K

Participants in the inaugural Great Western Greenway 10k Run/Walk, a centre piece in the forthcoming Westport Get Out There Adventure Festival (23-25 September), should have an extra spring in their step with the announcement of a total prize fund of €2,000 for the event.

Western adventure racers to do battle in Achill

After last year’s sell out success the ROAR Adventure Race is coming back to Achill this September. This event in 2009 was the first of Ireland’s one day adventure races to offer the option of an entry level to sports and the more extreme challenge of the expert course. The expert course is either a 1000m swim or 3000m kayak in Keel Lough followed by a 15km beach and mountain run taking in the summit of Minaun (662m) and then a 45km cycle including the famous Atlantic Drive costal route.

Kiltimagh winner in Race2Glory

The inaugural “Race2Glory” in Kiltimagh was won by Ruaidhri Geraghty in an amazing time of 1 Hour 53 Mins, with the ladies race being won by Emma Donlon in a time of 2 hours 8 mins, with the hotly contested "First Culchies Home" going to Jonathon Caulifield and Marcella McDonnell.  However, all 200 contestants can consider themselves winners as the mere fete of finishing the race was an achievement in its self.

Imagine climbing 89 kilometres, 55 miles or two marathons in a 24-hour period. Then turn that challenge vertically on its head and include a steep incline of more than 755meters (2511feet) twelve times up and down (60280feet) 18,134m.
