Taoiseach Kenny said: “I strongly welcome the €620,000 of additional funding for the Bohola-Kiltimagh Road in County Mayo.
"Not only does this additional funding for the R321 allow for improvements to the road but it will continue to provide jobs and employment in the area. I hope that the improvements works can get underway as soon as possible.”
Deputy Mulherin commented: "I am delighted to welcome this additional allocation for this particular road between Bohola and Kiltimagh which owing to the Council running out of money in 2009 was left in an incomplete and dangerous state and urgently needed attention and to be completed in the interest of road safety. In fact the road has been prioritised as such by Mayo County Council. This news indeed will be greatly welcomed by all people regularly using this road and was badly needed."
Deputy O’Mahony commented:. “For the past number of years, the people living alongside the road have had to put up with a lot. Some work had started along the road but then the money ran out and the road was left in a terrible state. Not alone was it an awful eyesore, it made access to properties very difficult for residents and it created all types of impediments for people living there.
“I’ve campaigned for this improvement work to be carried out ever since I was elected in 2007 and I was delighted to have been in a position to personally call to people living there to tell them that funding for the work was finally secured. It’s a great day for these people and one that they have had to wait a long time for,” he said.
