Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhríde - Mayo County Council Writer in Residence 2012 will facilitate a Flash Fiction Workshop in Lough Lannagh Lodge on Tuesday next May 15th from 7.30-10pm, open to all writers in the county, as part of the residency. This is a free event, however, there is a limited number of spaces available.

The advances in the technology of book production from the time of The Book of Kells in the 8th century to the digital world of Amazon's Kindle e-Reader is the focus of a not-to-be missed exhibition opening at Mayo County Library in Castlebar. "From Kells to Kindle" - a unique exhibition on books and book production through the ages, will take place at the library from Tuesday, 1st to Saturday, 5th May inclusive.

Former GAA president Dr. Mickey Loftus officially launched the Coláiste Chomáin commemorative book ‘Ceiliúradh Oideachais i gColáiste Chomáin’ on Thursday night, April 19th.  Hugging the coast, 20 miles north of  Belmullet, Gaelcholáiste Chomáin, Rossport, was established by Gael Linn as a secondary school in 1959. TY students from  Gaelcholáiste Chomáin have spent the last six months researching student life and secondary education in the small rural village of Rossport and their 100 page publication is full of folklore, heritage and history.

Mayo man, Dr. Seán Rowland, founder and President of Hibernia College, Ireland’s first and only, accredited online third-level institution, has officially launched 'Inspirations of a Curious Kind', an interestingly diverse collection of poetry and prose by the Mayo-based ward9writers group. The launch at Ballina Arts Centre marks the culmination of a year’s hard work by the assorted group of ten men and women who have drawn upon life experience, imagination and observations to create this intriguing anthology which is now on sale.

'Kiltimagh Remembered: Volume 4' is now on sale. The Kiltimagh Remembered series of books by local author, Basil Burke chronicle historical events from Kiltimagh, and the surrounding areas from the 19th  century until recent times. The books remember many of the people, events, places and businesses which combined to shape our lives down through the years with hundreds of historical photographs.

St. Colmans Parish Pastoral Team has launched a new book, Milestones, a commemorative collection of articles and photographs marking the 100th anniversary of the opening of St. Colmans Parish Church in Claremorris. This large-format and colourful book contains a series of articles by local writers on aspects of the ecclesiastical history of Kilcolman Parish  and is edited by Colman O'Raghallaigh.

I was one of the early e-book reader adapters and years later I am still using my Sony e-reader which I consider one of the most enoyable and useful gadgets I have ever bought. Over the years, I have found the Sony  PRS 505 to be much more than just an e-book reader. I use it to store and read PDFs and lots of other documents for business and research.

The launch of 'A Long Road to Freedom' - the life of World War 11 veteran and father of an Omagh bomb victim, Patrick McCrystal - took place in the Charlestown library and was performed by Fine Gael TD for Mayo, Michelle Mulhern. The book was written by Mary McCartan from Omagh and tells the story of Patrick McCrystal who fought in World War Two.

Killasser book presented to An Taoiseach

Bernard O'Hara, author of  'Killasser: Heritage Of A Mayo Parish', took the opportunity recently to present a coppy of his book to An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD.

Castlebar author, Nancy Carney, launched her debut book, Farewell Philadelphia, in the Linehall Arts Centre on Friday night with the proceeds of the book going to Western Alzheimers, Ballindine. The book was launched by John Grant of Western Alzheimers Association. A large gathering of family and friends turned out to wish Nancy success with the book that tells the story of Catherine Brennan who set sail for America in 1924 to make her fortune and her return to the West of Ireland to seek a husband with the help of a matchmaker.
